ABOUT ME

tyler-headshotI was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where at an early age, I developed an interest in the arts. That interest manifested into passion for Architectural design and the built environment.   I applied and was accepted into the Auburn University school of Architecture and never looked back.  I graduated with honors and a Bachelor Degree of Architecture and then moved to Birmingham, Alabama to begin my career.  Early in, I was privileged to work on and manage a wide variety of job types, from the smallest residential job to very large commercial, institutional, and industrial projects.  After a few years of learning how to practice architecture, I passed all the licensure exams and became a registered Architect. I founded TGP Architecture with the intention of making my dream of creating custom spaces for life to happen.  I feel fortunate to be able to follow my passion for design as a professional. I decided to start this business and to provide design services with a personal approach to each design opportunity.

I believe design and construction is a fun process, and I want to work with people who really care about the built environment.  With a relationship based approach, I believe listening and collaborating with each client ensures that every project provides unique solutions to each individual’s needs.  I look forward to every opportunity to meet new people, explore new design solutions, and to collaborate with my clients to hopefully exceed their design aspirations.

About Architecture

Webster defines architecture as:

“The art or science of building; specifically: the art or practice of designing and building structures and especially habitable ones.”

It is the capturing of space, the manipulation of light, the combination of materials, and the response to place, while remaining beautiful, functional and sustainable.  It is how one space can lead you to another while other spaces can beg you to stay.  The truth is, if you ask ten different architects what it is to them, you would probably get ten different answers.  I draw inspiration from quotes and teachings of those who have come before me and the quotes included on this website exemplify my beliefs on what architecture was, is, and can be.  Ultimately, I believe it is the spaces and structures in which we live our lives.  All of us are affected by architecture every day.   It is where we live, work, and play!  Whether it be our homes, workplaces, or where we go to entertain ourselves, buildings are almost always designed to be lived in, and every decision made in the design process should be driven by how people will engage that space.

I believe the end result cannot be predetermined but instead is the result of a collaborative process between owner and architect.  The best part of architecture to me is that client interaction.  Each new project and client present new challenges and opportunities.  Therefore, the solutions must evolve and respond.  It is this close collaboration that generates the architecture.
